US President Barack Obama announced William Heidt as his choice for ambassador to Cambodia on Tuesday.

Mr. Heidt is a career diplomat currently serving as Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment at the Department of State, a position he has held since 2012.

This won't be Mr. Heidt's first time working in Cambodia. He served as Economic and Commercial Officer at the US Embassy in Phnom Penh from 1997 to 1999.

He has worked in embassies across the world, with stops in Indonesia and Poland as well as a post working for the US delegation at the UN in New York.

If he is confirmed for the post, he will be replacing William Todd, who has worked as ambassador to Cambodia since 2012.

This story ran on April 8, 2015.
